In today’s world, being connected has become a crucial part of people’s lives. People look for Wi-Fi anywhere they go, whether it’s at an airport, in the city, or on a train. Students desperately look for a strong connection at their school’s libraries, dorms and classrooms. While tourists expect good Wi-Fi at hotels to connect with their families and plan their next day’s outings. Strong, high-speed signals and broad Wi-Fi coverage is the expectation in healthcare locations such as hospitals and doctor offices, so that doctors, patients and their families can adequately communicate from waiting rooms or work in operating rooms. All of these are high density areas and all of them need great connectivity.

Wi-Fi woes in high-density areas

Though it may be challenging to have what it takes to make the ideal connectivity for high density areas, it is important to consider some of its characteristics. This article by Daniel Ferrero, Director of the Network Business Transformation, states that as a minimum, locations providing Wi-Fi for the public, their customers, or patients must:

  • Provide strong Wi-Fi radio coverage
  • Ensure a quality user experience for all clients who access the network
  • Deliver secure and resilient high network up-time
  • Deliver high-speed Wi-Fi that is simple to deploy and scale

How to overcome the Wi-Fi woes

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) offers the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess® Stellar AP1230 series as a solution. It is an 802.11ac Wave 2 high end access point that provides three Wi-Fi radios 4×4:4, and multi-gig capacity.

You can find all the ways the AP1230 series is ideal for your large, dense deployments in ALE’s blog article by Daniel Ferrero.

In summary, this series includes the AP1231 and AP1232 which each have three radios. The radios offered are two 5 GHz and one 2.4 GHz. The AP1231 and AP1232 provide increased network availability with aggregated dual uplinks. They have 1 Gb Ethernet and 2.5 Gb Ethernet uplink capabilities, so one can always back the other.

In addition, the OmniAccess AP1230 series is the only one to provide multi-gigabit throughput for up to 768 concurrent client connections. And lastly, it has the ability to connect an access point from another building without any wires. It makes it easier and more cost effective to join different buildings to the same network.

Overall, the OmniAccess Stellar Wi-Fi access points help you achieve high speeds and performance for your network services and applications, as well as guarantee that your users have network access anywhere on your campus.
